Day 32 - Sissinghurst

A day out from Herne Bay to Sissinghurst Castle Gardens. This was the home of Vita Sackville-West and her husband from 1930 until the 60's and now managed by the National Trust. They essentially created the gardens from scratch and it is famous for this reason and because she wrote a gardening column in the Observer for 30 years.

It was a nice day and became sunny in the afternoon. Have I mentioned that it's cold? That may be obvious from the photos - it got up to about 8 degrees today, so although it was pleasant we were well covered. There was a exhibition of photos of the garden, which showed how good it looks in spring and summer. We had a great time and the gardens seemed beautiful, but it would be worth coming back in another season.

Sissinghurst is about an hour's drive from Herne Bay, nearer Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells.
