Day 15 - Falkland Islands

The ship moored in Port William, just outside Stanley's harbour, at about 9am this morning, then tenders ran back and forth to the port all day. We went in late in the morning and spent some time wandering about the town.

It's a very pleasant town - colourful and orderly, in a generally windswept and starkly beautiful landscape.

We stopped at several souvenir shops, looked around the little museum and eventually had some lunch and a drink in a cafe (which we didn't need - we were mostly just thirsty, but the fish burger was delicious).

Arriving back at the waterfront, we took one of the tour buses to Gypsy Cove. This is really just on the outskirts of Stanley and some of the sand dunes on the way are fenced off as they may still contain land mines. When we got there we took a walk around the path overlooking the cove and admired the scenery and the Magellanic penguins.

It was overcast the whole day and only about 10 degrees, but never rained; our run of good weather continues.
